Switching to Linux Mint: A Step Toward Change

I have been looking for a change for a long time. I wanted to start somewhere close to home. I changed my operating system, I said hello to “Linux Mint”.

Background of my new desktop | Linux Mint

I am aware of my need for a fresh start, a change in every aspect of my life. This is something I have been feeling deeply for a long time. I decided to change the operating system of both myself and the computer. I started with the computer first.

I had already experienced Linux with the Ubuntu distribution, both as a virtual machine installation and as WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux). Now I wanted to reset the hard drives and start from scratch. I installed Linux Mint as my main OS.

Maybe the reason why Ubuntu didn’t last long was that Windows was the main operating system. So Ubuntu was always like an add-on. And getting used to Windows meant that when I started something, I always went to Windows. Now I have reduced the choice to one, and with a different distribution.

I have a couple of answers to the question of why I needed to do this.

  1. To create an environment where I can feel more productive.
  2. Being able to focus only on what I want to do: I don’t want to be interrupted by applications running in the background that take time to close, unnecessary plugins that can’t be uninstalled, alerts that pop up, etc.
  3. Being in a freer environment that I can configure.
  4. Eliminating the game option, making it harder to access.
  5. Trying a different operating system, taking a step towards change. Getting out of the comfort zone. Exploring, and experiencing something new.

Of course, it also comes with a few hesitations; some applications don’t support Linux or require more effort to install. It may take some time at first, but I believe I will get used to it.

As I tried to express above, my main goal is to try to be an individual who produces, develops, shares, and feels he exists while producing, rather than consuming. I believe that this free environment and the communities that contribute to open source will be good for me.
